How we assess
your running.

A running assessment at PRT is a detailed look at how you actually move when you run, and what that means for your risk of injury and your performance potential. We combine video gait analysis with a hands-on physical screening and a conversation about your training, your goals, and your history.

You leave with a clear picture of what's working, what's not, and a practical plan: changes to your running form, strength or mobility work to add, and training-load guidance if that's part of the conversation.

What we look at

Video gait analysis

Slow-motion footage from 2 or more angles so we can see what your body is actually doing.

Strength & mobility screening

Hip, ankle, core, and foot strength and range of motion, matched to what your running needs.

Footwear & orthotic review

What you're running in, how worn the shoes are, whether they fit your mechanics.

Training load & history

Mileage progression, pace mix, injury history, upcoming races or goals.

Who we see.

Running assessments work for runners at every level, whether you're chasing a PB, coming back from an injury, or just trying to run consistently without breaking down.

Recurring running injuries

Same injury keeps showing up every time you ramp mileage or intensity.

Training for a race

5K, 10K, half, full, or ultra. Bake injury prevention into the plan.

Returning after injury

Safely rebuilding mileage after a shin, knee, Achilles, or hamstring issue.

New to running

Starting out and want to do it right from the first mile.

Performance tune-ups

No injury, but something feels off in your stride or you want more out of your body.

Hyrox and hybrid athletes

Running mixed with strength, sled work, carries, and everything else Hyrox throws at you.

Your assessment.

The assessment is 60 minutes, 1-on-1 with your practitioner. Wear running clothes and bring the shoes you usually train in.

01

Conversation

Goals, training, injury history, shoes, and what brought you in. The context shapes everything that follows.

02

Physical screening

Strength, mobility, and movement testing of hips, core, ankles, and feet, all relevant to your running mechanics.

03

Gait analysis

Run on the treadmill while we film from multiple angles. We watch the footage back with you and walk through what we see.

04

Your plan

Clear takeaways: form cues to try, specific exercises to add, and guidance on training load. Nothing generic.

Built by runners,
for runners.

Dr. Dan Silva is a runner and triathlete who treats runners every day. The running assessment isn't a checklist we bought off the shelf, it's the same process our practitioners use for themselves and the rest of the PRT run club.

You leave knowing exactly what to work on and why. No vague "work on your form" advice. Specific, actionable, and tied to the training you're already doing.

Offered by our chiropractors and physiotherapists.

Running assessments at PRT are delivered by our DCs and PTs who specialize in running injuries and performance programming. Every practitioner uses the same assessment framework.

Common questions.

Do I need to already be a "runner" to book?
No. We see people ranging from first-mile beginners to ultra runners. The assessment is tailored to your level and your goals.
What should I wear and bring?
Running clothes you can move comfortably in, and the shoes you usually train in. If you rotate between multiple pairs, bring the main one. Water helps too.
Is this covered by insurance?
Running assessments are billed under chiropractic or physiotherapy, depending on your provider. Most extended health plans cover those. We direct bill most major Canadian insurers as a courtesy, but direct billing isn't a guarantee your plan will cover it.
Will you fix my running form in one session?
One session gives you a clear map and a practical plan, but form changes take time and reps. We usually recommend a follow-up 4 to 6 weeks later to recheck progress and update the plan.
Can I book if I'm currently injured?
Yes, and often that's the best time. We'll work around the injury and use the assessment to inform your return-to-running plan alongside any treatment you need.
Do you treat Hyrox athletes specifically?
Yes. Our East York clinic is inside Resilience Fitness, which is the official HYROX training facility for Toronto and Durham. A good chunk of our runners and hybrid athletes are training for Hyrox, and the assessment accounts for the full demands of the race.
