How physiotherapy
works here.

Physiotherapy at PRT is the opposite of a sheet of printed exercises and a few ultrasound minutes. It's detailed movement assessment, hands-on manual therapy, and a program that progresses with you.

We combine what relieves pain today (soft tissue, joint mobilization, education) with what builds durable tissue for next month (loading, strength, movement re-patterning). Symptom relief without capacity is temporary. We do both.

How we treat

Manual therapy

Hands-on joint and soft tissue mobilization where it helps your recovery.

Progressive loading

Structured exercise progressions that build real capacity.

Post-surgical rehab

ACL, rotator cuff, shoulder, hip, knee, and spine protocols handled in-house.

Return-to-sport

Clear milestones so you know when it's safe to train, run, lift, or compete.

Acupuncture & dry needling

Used alongside manual therapy and exercise for pain, muscle tension, and trigger points.

Who we
help.

Physiotherapy at PRT covers the full range from "I tweaked my back" to "I'm 6 weeks post-op and need to run again in August." If any of this sounds like your situation, we can help.

Post-surgical recovery

ACL, rotator cuff, meniscus, hip/knee replacement, shoulder, and spine.

Sports injuries

Acute strains and sprains, overuse injuries, and return-to-play planning.

Tendinopathy

Achilles, patellar, gluteal, proximal hamstring, and upper-extremity tendon issues.

Back & neck pain

Acute flare-ups, chronic stiffness, postural strain, disc-related symptoms.

Running injuries

Shin splints, runner's knee, IT band, calf and foot pain.

Neurological rehab

Concussion, vestibular issues, balance, and nerve-related pain.

Joint & mobility issues

Stiff shoulders, hips, ankles. Getting range back after injury or surgery.

Older adult care

Fall prevention, strength, balance, and maintaining independence with load.

Chronic pain

Long-standing issues where other approaches have plateaued.

Your
first visit.

Your initial assessment is 45 minutes with your physiotherapist, 1-on-1. Follow-up visits are 30 minutes. Either way, the whole session is yours.

01

The conversation

We ask what you're dealing with, when it started, what makes it worse, and what you're trying to get back to. Full history first, because context matters.

02

Movement assessment

Strength, range of motion, functional testing. We look at how the whole chain is working so we can find what's actually driving your symptoms.

03

Treatment starts day one

You don't leave empty-handed. Manual therapy, exercise, or both, whatever matches what we found.

04

A plan that's yours

Clear plan of care, realistic timelines, specific progressions. You know what to do between visits and what recovery actually looks like.

We don't do
assembly-line care.

You get the full session with your physiotherapist, start to finish. Same practitioner the whole time, same plan across every visit, same focus on what you actually came in for.

One practitioner, one plan, and a clear path back to what you were doing before this started.

Who provides this.

Physiotherapy at PRT is delivered by registered physiotherapists. Backgrounds include post-surgical, sports, neurological, and pelvic health rehabilitation. Every practitioner is trained to the same standard of 1-on-1 care.

Common questions.

Do I need a referral?
No. Physiotherapists are primary healthcare providers in Ontario, so you can book directly. If your insurance requires a doctor's referral for reimbursement, we'll let you know and help you get one.
What's the difference between physiotherapy and chiropractic at PRT?
Both use manual therapy and progressive exercise programming, so the hands-on experience is similar. The difference is the practitioner's training and regulatory scope. Physiotherapists have deeper training in post-surgical protocols, neurological conditions, and complex multi-joint rehab. Chiropractors are often a stronger fit for spinal and joint adjustments. Many patients see both.
Does insurance cover physiotherapy?
Most extended health plans in Canada cover physiotherapy. Some providers require a physician's referral for reimbursement, so check your specific plan before booking if you want insurance to cover the visit. We offer direct billing for most major insurers as a courtesy. Direct billing isn't a guarantee of coverage, it's a convenience.
How long until I feel better?
It depends on what's going on, how long it's been there, and what 'better' means for you. Acute issues often resolve in 4 to 6 sessions. Post-surgical or chronic rehabilitation may run 8 to 16 weeks. You'll get a realistic timeline at your first visit.
Do I need imaging (MRI, X-ray) first?
Usually not. Most musculoskeletal issues can be assessed and treated effectively without imaging. If imaging is clinically indicated, we'll refer you to your family doctor or walk-in clinic with a specific recommendation.
What should I wear?
Comfortable, flexible clothing. Shorts and a t-shirt work well. We'll give you privacy to change if needed.
