How FST
works here.

Fascial Stretch Therapy is a table-based, assisted stretching system. You lie down in comfortable training wear, your practitioner stabilizes you with straps, and moves you through progressive stretches that reach the fascia and joint capsule. It's pain-free, rhythmic, and surprisingly effective for people who feel stuck when they train.

Different from massage and different from a yoga class. FST is a one-on-one, mobility-focused session with a practitioner who knows how to get a joint moving properly without chasing every tight muscle that shows up along the way.

What a session targets

Joint capsule

Traction and rotational work to free up end-range mobility that stretching on your own can't reach.

Fascial lines

Connected tissue chains (legs, hips, spine, shoulders) treated as one continuous system.

Nervous system

Rhythmic, pain-free stretching that down-regulates tone and guarding.

Movement carry-over

Restored range, followed by active reinforcement so it sticks beyond the table.

Who FST
is for.

FST isn't a cure for a specific injury. It's a mobility tool that fits a lot of bodies. The people who get the most out of it:

Chronic tightness

Hips, shoulders, thoracic spine. The stuff that never quite unlocks with foam rolling.

Training plateaus

Squats that won't get deeper, overhead positions that feel pinchy, hip hinges that won't load.

Desk bodies

Long days sitting, then trying to train like an athlete in the evening. Hips and shoulders take the hit.

Runners

Restricted hips, stiff ankles, a posterior chain that won't lengthen. FST pairs well with a running assessment.

Post-injury return

After rehab, once tissue is healed, FST restores the end-range mobility injury-plus-guarding took away.

Recovery between blocks

A reset for the body during a heavy training block or between competition phases.

General stiffness

Mornings that start slow, hips that don't want to cooperate until the third cup of coffee.

Nervous-system down-regulation

The work is quiet and rhythmic. People often come out as relaxed as they do mobile.

Stacked with rehab

Alongside physio or chiro care when mobility is a limiting factor in your rehab plan.

Your
first session.

FST sessions are simple. You show up, get comfortable on the table, and your practitioner moves you. Here's the shape of a first visit.

01

Quick intake

Medical history, movement goals, training or sport, and where you feel restricted. Short and focused.

02

Mobility screen

A brief look at a few key joints (hips, shoulders, spine) to figure out where the limiting factors live.

03

The stretch session

Table-based, fully clothed, pain-free. Your practitioner uses straps to stabilize you and moves each joint through progressive traction and stretching. Rhythmic and relaxing.

04

What to do next

Two or three specific movements to reinforce the range you just unlocked, plus a plan for follow-up if it fits your goals.

How FST fits
in a bigger plan.

FST is one tool. It pairs well with physiotherapy, chiropractic, and massage therapy, and it's often a missing piece for athletes who have the strength but not the range. If what you actually need is rehab, manual therapy, or a loading program, we'll tell you.

You'll leave moving better, and with a short list of things to do so that it lasts.

Who provides this.

FST at PRT is offered by our registered massage therapists who carry additional certification in Fascial Stretch Therapy. Sessions are billed as RMT for insurance purposes.

Common questions.

Is it painful?
No. FST is pain-free by design. Stretches are taken to the first barrier of resistance, not past it. If something pinches or hurts, we back off.
What should I wear?
Comfortable training clothes. Shorts, leggings, or athletic pants, and a t-shirt. You stay fully clothed the whole session.
How is this different from a massage?
Massage focuses on soft-tissue work. FST focuses on joint capsule and fascial lines through assisted stretching. Different tools, different outcomes. Some people do both.
Is FST covered by insurance?
Sessions are delivered by a registered massage therapist and billed as RMT for insurance purposes. Most extended health plans that cover RMT will reimburse a FST session. We offer direct billing as a courtesy; it's not a guarantee the claim will be accepted.
How often should I come in?
Depends on your goals. For a specific mobility issue, weekly for a short block is typical. For maintenance and general movement quality, every 2 to 4 weeks is common.
Can I pair FST with other services?
Yes. FST works well alongside physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy, and running assessments. If you want a coordinated plan, tell us what you're training for and we'll map it out.
