How we approach
massage therapy.

Registered massage therapy at PRT isn't an hour of light back-rubbing. It's hands-on treatment focused on specific tissues and specific goals, whether that's recovering from a hard training block, unwinding chronic tension, or supporting an active rehab plan.

Every RMT at PRT is a registered practitioner in Ontario. That means regulated, evidence-informed care, and a set of hands that can tell the difference between "this muscle is tight" and "this muscle is tight because your hip isn't moving properly."

Techniques we use

Deep tissue

Targeted pressure for deeper muscle layers and chronic tension.

Myofascial release

Slow, sustained work to restore fascia glide and mobility.

Trigger point therapy

Specific pressure on knots that refer pain elsewhere.

Sport massage

Pre-event, post-event, and maintenance work for active bodies.

Acupuncture & electroacupuncture

Available with RMTs who carry additional acupuncture certification. Ask at booking.

What we
work on.

People book massage therapy for a thousand reasons. At PRT, a handful come up again and again.

Chronic muscle tension

Neck, shoulders, low back, hips. The places life leaves a mark.

Training recovery

Post-long run, post-race, post-heavy lift. Get back to baseline faster.

Sports injury support

Alongside physio or chiro care to accelerate soft-tissue healing.

Tension headaches

Neck, jaw, and scalp work for headache management.

Postural strain

Desk, driving, parenting. The "my shoulders live near my ears" special.

Stress & sleep

Down-regulation, parasympathetic work, sleep quality.

Pregnancy massage

Safe, comfortable prenatal work with proper positioning.

Post-surgical care

Scar tissue mobilization and recovery support after clearance.

Performance maintenance

Regular work to stay durable and move well between training blocks.

Your
first visit.

First massage appointments include a focused intake so we treat what matters. After that, follow-up sessions are whatever length works for you.

01

Quick intake

Medical history, what brought you in, areas you want worked on, pressure preferences, and anything you want us to skip.

02

Assessment

Brief hands-on or movement check to figure out where the real problem is. Often not where the pain is.

03

Treatment

The massage. Communication stays open: pressure, positioning, and technique adjusted in real time.

04

What to do next

A few home suggestions (stretches, self-care, water), and a plan for follow-up if needed.

How RMT fits
at PRT.

Our RMTs work closely with our physiotherapists and chiropractors. If something feels off during a session, we flag it, loop in the right provider, and keep your overall plan moving.

The work we do is designed for people who train. If you're here for stress relief and relaxation we do that too, but the baseline skillset is therapeutic.

Who provides this.

Massage therapy at PRT is delivered by registered massage therapists (RMTs) licensed in Ontario. Every RMT is trained to the same standard of clinical, sport-informed bodywork.

Common questions.

Do I need a referral?
No. You can book RMT directly. Some insurance plans require a doctor's note for reimbursement, especially above a certain annual limit. If yours does, we'll help you sort it out.
Is RMT covered by insurance?
Yes. Registered massage therapy is covered by most extended health plans in Canada. Some plans require a doctor's note before they'll reimburse; check your specific plan first so you're not caught paying upfront. We offer direct billing for most major insurers as a courtesy, but direct billing isn't a guarantee the claim will be accepted.
How often should I come in?
It depends on what you're dealing with. For acute pain or injury support, weekly for 3 or 4 sessions is common. For maintenance and recovery, every 2 to 4 weeks is typical. Your RMT will recommend a rhythm that fits your goals.
What should I wear?
Most massage work is done with the area being treated undraped, and the rest of you covered by a sheet at all times. You undress to your comfort level. If you'd rather stay fully clothed, let your RMT know, we can work through clothing.
Does it have to hurt to work?
No. Deep work can be uncomfortable, and some tension release is sharp, but pain is not a required feature of effective treatment. We adjust pressure based on what your tissue actually needs and what you want.
Can I come in if I'm pregnant?
Yes. Prenatal massage is safe and often helpful. We use proper positioning (side-lying with pillows) and techniques adapted for pregnancy.
