What red light
therapy does.

Red light therapy (photobiomodulation) uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to influence how cells produce energy. The research points to benefits for tissue repair, inflammation modulation, circulation, and recovery, especially alongside active training or rehab.

PRT's Recovery Room at East York uses clinical-grade Infraredi panels calibrated to therapeutic wavelengths. Sessions are short, private, and simple. You control the experience.

What the light does

Cellular energy

Stimulates mitochondrial activity in exposed tissue.

Inflammation support

Modulates inflammation after training or injury.

Circulation boost

Increases local blood flow during and after exposure.

Tissue repair

Supports the body's own healing processes in skin, muscle, and joints.

What people use
it for.

Red light therapy isn't a cure-all, but people use it alongside training, rehab, and recovery for a range of reasons. A few of the most common:

Training recovery

Post-workout sessions for muscle soreness and recovery support.

Joint pain

Knees, shoulders, hips. Targeted exposure to painful or stiff joints.

Tendinopathy support

Adjunct to active rehab for chronic tendon issues.

Inflammation

General inflammation management, including post-injury.

Skin health

Collagen support, skin tone, and wound healing.

Sleep & circadian

Used in the morning to support natural circadian rhythms.

Post-surgical recovery

Tissue repair support once cleared for use.

General wellness

Regular sessions as part of a broader recovery stack.

Stress & mood

Some people report subjective mood and energy benefits.

How a session
works.

Red light sessions are short and private. No practitioner needed in the room during treatment. Here's the flow.

01

Check in

You arrive a few minutes before your session. Front desk sets you up in the Recovery Room.

02

Get changed

Light works best on exposed skin. You undress to your comfort level in privacy (most people use undergarments or swimwear).

03

The session

15 to 20 minutes in front of the panel. Close the provided eyewear, relax, and let the light do its thing.

04

Head out

Quick change, grab water on the way out. No downtime. No recovery needed from the recovery.

How we use
red light.

We use red light therapy the way the research supports it: as a targeted adjunct to rehab, training, and recovery. It complements the rest of your plan.

If it's the right fit for what you're working on, we'll say so. If it isn't, we'll tell you that too.

Who provides this.

Red light sessions are self-guided. Our front desk will get you set up, explain the panel, and check in afterward. If you want guidance on whether red light is a good fit for your specific goals, one of our practitioners can advise during an assessment.

Common questions.

Is it safe?
Yes, for most people. The panels emit non-ionizing red and near-infrared light (no UV). Provided eyewear is used during the session. If you have photosensitivity, are on medications that affect light sensitivity, or have a specific medical concern, check with your doctor first.
How often should I do it?
For general recovery, 2 to 4 sessions per week is common. For a specific goal (post-injury, training block, skin), your practitioner can recommend a frequency. More is not always better.
Will I feel anything?
A gentle warmth. That's it. You won't feel zapped, tingly, or sore. Many people find the 15 to 20 minutes genuinely relaxing.
What should I wear?
As little as you're comfortable with over the areas being treated. Light works on skin, not through thick fabric. Most people wear undergarments or swimwear.
Can I bring headphones or a book?
Yes. Many people use the session for music, meditation, or a short scroll-free break. Up to you.
Is it covered by insurance?
Most insurance plans don't cover red light therapy directly. Sessions are paid out of pocket. Recovery Room packages are available at the front desk.
